Like most crafty gals, I find myself uninspired with the selection of commercial mouse pads today. While I enjoy kittens hanging on for dear life from a branch as much as the next person, I rarely want to see that everyday. One day I found myself with an excess of Peltex, twill ribbon and an idea. What follows is a quick way to whip up your own mouse pad, sans kitty.
Materials needed:
Two 10.5'' squares of 2 lightweight cotton (one for each side)
One 10.5'' square of Peltex or Timtex (your preference), fusible or sew-on is fine
Approx 45'' of 1'' or wider Bias Tape or ribbon of your choice
Step 1) Pin and baste or fuse cotton to both sides of the Interfacing. If pinning and basting be sure to use a 1/4'' seam allowance so this will not show when you stitch on the bias tape. If fusing, this is not a concern. Repeat if needed for the other side of the mouse pad.
Step 2) Pin Bias tape in place making sure to miter your corners for a finished look. Start half way in one side and pin all the way around. When you come back to the beginning tuck under your end and pin so it over laps your beginning slightly. 
Step 3) Stitch carefully around your bias tape using an 1/8'' seam from the inside edge. Go all the way around continuously. Back Stitch and you are done.
Step 4) Call your mother and tell her what you have made and assure her that everyone will be getting one for Christmas.
Extras: Embellish your cotton before affixing it to your interfacing. Use embroidery or appliques for and even more snazzy mouse pad.
